Bible Time with Daddy

Jeff's been doing "Daddy's Song and Bible Time".  The kids and I enjoy it.  It was fun on Sunday when Pastor Tommy was preaching and he referenced what we had been talking about on Saturday night.

Mirror Writing?

I watched Katy trying to write the words "the end" in the spaces provided in her first music theory lesson.  She spent about 5 minutes writing and erasing and writing and fixing and erasing and writing.  I was laughing before she finished.  Since I was laughing, she started laughing.  She knew exactly how to spell the words, but getting them placed correctly was the challenge.  This is what she came up with.

After she finished writing I asked her if she wrote them correctly she looked at it said "yes" and then said "no" and changed the D to be not backwards.  I was trying to figure out if she was doing it on purpose, but I don't think she was.  She wrote them from right to left, too.  Later I showed it to Jeff and showed it to Katy again and asked her if it was written correctly and she said it was all correct except for the D which she said is backwards.  She told Jeff that we were laughing earlier when she was writing it becasue she kept writing it backwards, but she finally got it right.  It is not backwards now, except of course for the D (according to Katy).

I know she takes a long time to write things, but I've never sat there and watched her write.  Her copywork has frequent backward letters, but not whole words.  When I tell her what letters are backwards she fixes them without complaint.  She writes most numbers backwards or upsidedown, unless I remind her to pay attention and write them carefully.   She puts her shoes on the wrong feet almost all the time.  She used to insist on looking at books upside down when she was little before she could read.  Now I'm curious, if I dictate something to her and she can't look at it to copy will it all be backwards?  Maybe we will try it and find out.

The Christmas Tree is Put Away

On Saturday, while I was out visiting my mentor and grocery shopping Jeff took down the Christmas tree.  I noticed it as soon as I walked in the door.  I've been enjoying sitting in the living room and feeling how much cleaner it seems.  I'm not sure if "cleaner" is the the right word.  I really enjoyed having the Christmas tree up, but now I'm glad it is down.  The room is so much brighter, not that I thought it was dull before.  I guess I'm not doing a very good job of trying to say what I'm thinking so I'll stop now and let you find something more interesting to do.

Intentionally Enjoying My Family - Listening

When was the last time you actually enjoyed listening to your children?

Over the last couple of weeks I've been enjoying listening to my husband and children.

I got the opportunity to hear the 4 oldest playing in the garage while Jeff was working on a project.  I enjoyed listening to the sounds that indicated they were having fun.

I've enjoyed listening to:
       -Kent read a chapter in his reading book to me while I was fixing lunch.
       -Clark's happy squeals and babbles.
       -Katy and Kaomi playing together and making up stories.
       -Felicity's dress up shoes going click, clack across the kitchen floor.  She loves shoes.
       -Kent as he told me about what he had done in the x-box game he played one afternoon.
       -Jeff talk to me in the evenings.
       -Everyone saying "I love you.".
      
I enjoy hearing the sounds of my children running to see who is here when the doorbell rings.

I've enjoyed listening to:
      -Everyone's voices joined together in singing praises to God.
      -Jeff reading the Bible.
      -Clark clicking his tongue.
      -Kaomi laugh.
      -My children quoting Bible verses they have learned.
      -Jeff studying Hebrews chapter 4, in preparation for our Bible Study.
      -Katy get excited about being able to play her piano lessons better, because she had been 
       practicing.
      -Felicity talking more and more about everything.
      -Kaomi coming to snuggle with Jeff in the mornings.
      -Kent telling me about his Legos.

I enjoyed hearing Katy say "I forgive you" after I had wronged her and had to apologize.

I've enjoyed listening to:
      -Kent and Katy giggling over feeding each other while practicing serving.
      -Jeff practicing his guitar.
      -Kaomi asking to "do school".
      -Felicity "reading" to Clark and her toys.
      -Clark practicing "Da-da-da-da-da".

Sewing Just a Little

I like to sew, but don't make much time for it.  I was recently looking for some embroidery floss for a craft and came across a picture I had started to embroider before Kent was born.  I thought about how I could work on it and maybe get it finished sooner or later.  I've been getting it out when Kent is reading to me in the afternoons.  I don't get very far, but every little bit will make the whole picture.  I've also found it relaxing and helping me to feel like I've done something worthwhile.  I'm looking forward to spending a little bit of time on this project and to seeing how long it will take to finish if I keep on working at it just a little bit at a time.

Dayspring Card Review

The lost art of letter writing.  Some of my favorite letters that I have received have been the ones my Grandma wrote to me.  She knew how to write a good letter and she tried to share some of it with me.  I'm not a very good letter writer, but I really need to practice it more.  I know several people whom I should send letters to, but haven't in a long time.



I like to get mail.  Real mail, that is from a real person.  I enjoy receiving cards from friends and family that just say "hi", encourage me or share news.  I also enjoy receiving birthday and Christmas cards.  Receiving a card in the mail shows that someone really thought about me. 

This month I teamed up with (in)spired deals and (in)courage to bring you a review on some cards that Dayspring sent me to review and send to someone special.

As I read the encouraging words on the cards I thought of several people that I hoped they would encourage.  I chose to send some of them right away to my Pop-pop and Grandma, and two other friends.  I prayed that these cards would encourage the recipients.  I really should sit down and write cards more often.  I liked sitting down and focusing on who I was writing to and praying for them as I wrote.  The cards were well written with words of encouragement for various situations.  The pictures on the cards were also attractive.  I would recommend them to anyone looking for some cards of encouragement.
