My Life is Full - Part 2

In part one I talked about how my three youngest children fill my life.  This time I'm going to share how the older three children also fill my life full.  They don't do all the fun little things that my littlest ones do, but there are plenty of fulfilling times that they add to my life in their own ways.

Kaomi - My quiet six year old keeps me guessing.  I often don't know what she is thinking.  She tends to be quiet and often doesn't speak up when she needs something.  She enjoys reading, which she used to struggle with.  She dislikes copywork so much that she will just sit and do it very slowly.  She likes to sit next to me when I am reading and she likes to have her back rubbed.  She likes to play dollhouse and set up scenes for me to look at.  She also likes to play pretend and help in the kitchen.  She likes babies, too.  She likes to try to get out of doing her chores by doing them very slowly or not doing them and hoping we don't notice.  She likes horses and got a chance to ride one a couple weeks ago and hopes she will get to do it again soon.

Katy - My competitive eight year old thinks like I do.  I understand her and can tell what she is thinking sometimes.  She likes help make lunch on the weekends.  She often fixes something for everyone to eat if she is given the chance.  Her independent streak shows when she wants to know how to do something, but as soon as she is shown she wants to do it by herself.  She enjoys embroidering and wants to learn how to sew.  She loves to help with Quinn and carry him around.  She likes horses and likes to read books about horses and really enjoyed getting to ride one a couple weeks ago with Kaomi and is looking forward to riding again.

Kent - My reluctant nine (almost ten) year old is beginning to show interest in doing things that show he is maturing.  He likes to help Jeff grill.  He thrives with structure for his day.  He struggles with change, but we work together to try and help him accept and adjust to it.  He tells every little detail about something he wants to talk about.  He likes to throw his football.  He enjoys visiting with our elderly neighbor.  I enjoy looking at his Lego designs from vehicles to sets for an action scene.  His ability to do a good job on his chores is improving and when he wants to do a good job there is little for me to have him finish.  He likes to go to CSB each week and is disappointed if something prevents him from getting to attend.  Kent also reads a lot.  Recently, he finished reading The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings series by J.R. Tolkien.

My Life is Full - Part 1

My life is full of enjoying my children.  I thought I would share some of the ways my youngest children constantly fill my life.

Quinn -  My sweet one year old fills my life with giggles.  He likes to be tickled and to tickle others.  He still nurses several times a day and once or twice at night.  With nursing comes extra snuggles and holding a sleeping baby who is sometimes just too cute to put down right away.  He is learning that it is fun to play with cars, especially with Clark.  He also gives lots of hugs to anyone who is close enough to receive them.  He isn't walking independently yet, but I think as soon as he realizes how much fun it is he will run as fast as he can to wherever he wants to go.

Clark - My very busy two year old fills my life with cute actions and sayings.  He loves to help me in the kitchen.  Lately, he's been helping me make lunch and he's been rushing in to set the table for dinner, even though it is Felicity's job.  He loves playing with cars, trucks, and airplanes.  He likes to build garages for his fire truck and police cars with Duplo Legos.  He snuggles with me when he has just woken up and sits in my lap during the older kids storytime.  Occasionally, he'll fall asleep while I'm reading.  He seldom takes a nap and his afternoon quiet time is full of play.  I just encourage him to stay in his room and stay relatively quiet.  He enjoys preschool time.  He really enjoys playing outside and I have to watch him closely if we are in the front yard as he has quickly disappeared before we realize he had even moved.  He loves to ride the blue tricycle.  He runs his feet up and down the sidewalk as fast as he can and doesn't often use the pedals which are still a little hard to reach.  He is learning to put words into coherrent sentences, but likes to make up his own words and pretend he is saying something.  He loves to "play" football, just like his big brother, Kent.

Felicity - My gentle 4 year old enjoys life to the fullest.  She spends time playing pretend with her dolls, animals and other toys.  She has fun building puzzles and her excitement is catching as she shows me how she finished the puzzle she was working on.  She loves to play with Clark and they are so much fun to watch when they are playing together.  She enjoys making crafts and coloring, often giving her beautiful masterpieces to me to hang on the wall.  We also enjoy having a snuggle with a story.  When she eats something that she really likes she has a special look on her face and sucks her bottom lip in enjoyment.  She's done this since she was a baby and it is still precious.  She also likes to play outside and rides her red tricycle up and down the sidewalk.

Knowing My Children - Kent 2013

How old are you?  "nine years old"

What is your favorite subject in school?  "That would be...there's one part in science I like, but probably the most favorite part right now is mystery for reading."

What do you like about it?  "because I can help solve mysteries"

What is your least favorite thing about school?  "That would be...math sometimes.  I don't really like space that much so it's part of science."     Why?  "because I don't want to go to space and float around like that.  I don't like math because I don't understand everything.  I like to figure it out on my own and not ask for help."    Does that work out for you?  "Well, not really."

What is your favorite color?  "Green, I have a few, but my most favorite is pretty much green."

What is the last book you read for fun?  "Mandie and the Invisible Trouble Maker"

What is your favorite food?  "birthday cake"

What is something you like to do?  "watch football!"

What is your favorite article of clothing?  "Socks, I guess, I don't really like any of them.  One of them I thing is weird though.  You wear it all the time unless you change it."

What is something you do not like?  "watching the Denver Broncos lose in a football game"

What do you like to do with Daddy?  "play Halo"

What do you like to do with Mommy?  "watch a movie"

What do you like to do with your siblings?  "play card games"

Do you like hugs or kisses?  "um, hugs"

What is something you are thankful for?  "I am thankful for Daddy."

Is there anything else you want me to know about you?  "I like the number 9 and the number 3 and the number 27, because it is made of 3 9's."

What do you want to be when you grow up?  "a football player or a soldier"

What do you want for Christmas?  "A Halo Lego set or a pet dog (which probably won't happen)."

What is your favorite subject in school?  "reading"

What do you like about it?  "I like to read."

What is your least favorite thing about school?  "math"      Why?  "because it is hard, especially third grade math"

What is your favorite color?  "red"

What is the last book you read for fun?  "um...I'm working on it.  It's Winnie the Pooh's Stories for Christmas."

What is your favorite food?  "hmm...still thinking...chicken legs"

What is something you like to do?  I like to draw pictures and write stories, especially about horses."

What is your favorite article of clothing?  "This horse shirt."

What is something you do not like?  "chores"

"I don't like the book The Twelve Days of Christmas, it's boring."

What is your favorite story?  I like most stories, unless they are long.

What is your favorite food?  "tacos"

Knowing My Children - Quinn 2013

How old are you?  10 1/2 months

What size clothes do you wear?  12-18 months,  but that seems soon to change

What is your favorite subject in school?  any subject that I can interupt

What is your least favorite subject in school?  The subject that Mommy puts me in bed while they have fun in the other room is my least favorite.

What is your favorite color?  My assigned color is brown and my favorite blanket it blue with brown trim and a monster on it.

What is something you like to do?  eat, crawl and pull books off the shelf

What is the last book you read for fun?  I read a book that sings and has a light up button on it.  It is one of the few books Mommy lets me have all by myself.

What is your favorite food?  I haven't found anything that I don't like yet.  I wish I could eat what everyone else is having on their plate.

What do you like to do with Daddy?  cuddle and sing with him

What do you like to do with Mommy?  eat and laugh

What do you like to do with your siblings?  smile and scream and touch their faces

What is something you don't like?  being roughed up by my siblings

What is your favorite article of clothing?  Daddy likes me in overalls.

Do you like hugs or kisses?  definitely both

What is something that you are thankful for?  snuggles with Mommy in the middle of the night

Is there anything else that you want me to know about you?  I like to scream really loud.

What do you want to be when you grow up?  Maybe I'll be a chef since I like to eat.

What do you want for Christmas?  I like to have fun.  I would like to be able to read more books all by myself.  As long as there is good food available for me to eat and milk for me to drink and people to hold me I will be content.

Knowing My Children - Clark

How old are you?  almost 10 months

What is your favorite subject in school?  nap-time, or not

What is your least favorite thing about school?  when everyone is too busy to pay attention to me

What is your favorite color?  my rag is off white

What is something you like to do?  I like to move, roll, scrooch etc. around the living room.  I also like to wake Daddy and Mommy up as often as I can at night when they want to sleep.



What is the last book you read for fun?  I was enjoying crumpling up a magazine I found on the floor.

What is your favorite food?  Milk is my favorite food.

What do you like to do with Daddy?  wake him up at night and get him to hold me

What do you like to do with Mommy?  eat

What do you like to do with your siblings?  I like to watch them.  They are very entertaining.

What is something you don't like?  I can't stand people food and don't understand why everyone else thinks it is so great.  I also don't like to be alone in my bed at night.

What is you favorite article of clothing?  My pants are really fun to play with when Mommy is changing my diaper.

Do you like hugs or kisses?  I like to have my tummy blown on and to be snuggled.

What is your favorite art medium?  Anything I can get my hands on, but Mommy doesn't like me to use anything like that so she take them away from me.  Fuzz on the floor is great, I actually might get to play with it for a little while.

Is there anything else you want me to know about you?  I like to be outside.

What do you want to be when you grow up?  I'm going to be a mechanic or engineer or something like that.  I think its great that I can take my high chair tray apart and I like to see who noticed what I've done.  Then I like to hide behind my tray that I disassembled and play peek-a-boo, so maybe I'll be an honorable comedian.  I also like to explore.

What is something you would like to do that you haven't done before or haven't done in a long time?  I want to walk and do fun things with my brother and sisters.

How old are you?  "6"

What is your favorite subject in school?  "reading"

What do you like about it?  "Because I want to know if Reddy Fox is going to get shot again or not."

What is your least favorite thing about school?  "copywork"
Why?  "Because I have to copy a whole bunch of stuff."

What is your favorite color?  "Light pink - like hot pink.  A really light pink is my favorite color."

What is something you like to do?  "Paint...no, bake.  I like to make a whole bunch of stuff."

What is the last book you read for fun?  "Samantha Learns a Lesson"

What is your favorite food?  "chocolate cake"

What do you like to do with Daddy?  "Go out for lunch."

What do you like to do with Mommy?  "bake food"

What do you like to do with your siblings?  "I like to play star wars with Kent.  I like to help Kaomi play my leapfrog.  I like to give Clark toys and make him laugh.  I like to play with Felicity in her bed and get her out of bed when I am allowed.  I like to help her get her stuff out of her bed, too.

What is something you don't like?  "somebody taking away what I'm playing with"

What is you favorite article of clothing? "my cupcake shirt and my pink skirt"

What do you like to do with Daddy?  "Daddy white chairs" (rock in the white rocking chair)

What do you like to do with Mommy?  "Cora's house"  (Walk to Cora's house.)

Do you like hugs or kisses?  both, but she'll come if I offer her a hug

How old are you?  "7 years old"

What is your favorite subject in school?  "history and reading"

What do you like about them?  "I just like them, because I like to read.  I like to read history, because I like it that I can read about wars like the Civil War and the Revolutionary War."

What is your least favorite thing about school?  "English"    Why?  "It's because of For You To Do's and Written Practice and More Practice and Reviews, unless there is only one of those and it is short."

What is your favorite color?  "green, brown and blue  - I decided to put blue on my list because I like the big blue bowls that we have that we use for cereal, oatmeal, and grits."

What is something you like to do?  "Play X-box all by myself or with Daddy or Mommy helping on the hard part.  I like to pretend I am a soldier."

What is the last book you read for fun?  "The whole series of the Chronicles of Narnia."

What is your favorite food?  "Pizza and pancakes and shredded wheat with icing or Autumn Wheat or Cinnamon Harvest and Raisin Bran.  I haven't had Raisin Bran in a long time, but I still like it.  And Honey Nut Chex.   Those are my favorite foods."

What do you like to do with Daddy?  "I like to eat lunch with Daddy and play x-box with Daddy.  I like to go to Christian Service Brigade with Daddy.  It is a privilege that I can lose if I don't have my room clean when it is time to go.  I try to clean my room every time and if I'm not done before supper I try to finish after before it is time to leave.  I like to have dodge ball and pizza nights, when we don't go into groups.  We just play dodge ball, eat pizza, and play around before we go home.  Then when we come home I put my jammies on and brush my teeth and go to bed."

What do you like to do with Mommy?  "Have tea parties with Mommy.  We get to drink tea and eat bread.  We have milk and cookies and sugar." 

What do you like to do with your siblings?  "I like to play nicely with them.  I like to play with Clark, giving him toys, making his toys talk and talking to him.  I like to play games from the game cabinet with Katy and Kaomi.  I like to watch movies with all of the girls.  I like to help get Felicity up from her bed after naps and in the morning, if she's not stinky.  I like to play battle with them and sometimes scare them when the come upstairs by hiding in the office balcony part and jumping out and them and saying RAAARRRR!"

What is something you don't like?  "I don't like cornbread dressing, but I like bread stuffing better.  Riding my bicycle without training wheels and playing x-box with the girls."

What is you favorite article of clothing?  "My camouflage pair of shorts and my camouflage pair of pants.  Hey, I have a couple pairs of camouflage shorts.  And my camouflage shirt."

Do you like hugs or kisses?  "I like hugs and squeezes.  Squeezes are hugs, but you squeeze instead of hug.  I don't like squeezes that choke or squeeze the breath out of me, though."

What is your favorite art medium?  "paintbrushes, painting on shape and race cars"

Is there anything else you want me to know about you?  "un-uh"

What do you want to be when you grow up?  "I want to be a builder someday." 

What is something you would like to do that you haven't done before or haven't done in a long time?  "I haven't gone to Fuddruckers in a long time, so I want to go there for lunch someday.
I would like to help Mommy make a cake.  I haven't done that in a really long time."
